Q1. Why did you choose design as a career ?
Being raised in Gujarat a land known for its crafts and art fascinated me towards persuing a degree in Fashion design as since childhood I was dressed in varied styles by my mother so the ideation of amalgamating craft and fashion drive me for a career in design.
Q2. Where do you visualise yourself five years from now?
I envision myself as inspiring person to others and take the indian crafts and art at global level, drive the industry towards sustainable Fashion and eco-friendly.
Q3. Whom do you consider your mentor/Guru and why?
Every meeting with a new person teach you a learning. Life time mentor is my parents and professors who inspired me and believed in me, taught to achieve something in life and friends who cheer and stand for what I have achieved and to achieve the goals.
Q4. What is the basic theme of your designing and why?
Basically I design western wear including tops , dress, skirts etc. Because today’s generation want freedom thus they are relaxing and cool garments i.e. doesn’t need to struggle while wearing them.
Q5. Write your autobiography ?
Myself Fatema Surti, from Gujarat. An individual who aspires to be a righteous designer who designs ethical fashion. And as an individual person I want to be a good and selfless human being. I am very keen to roam alone or with few people to places that inspires me. In college I got opportunity to visit kutch-bhuj as a design mentor and from there I got a clear vision that what I have to achieve. I have my own startup named Fatema Surti, a label which caters to crafts and design Sarees, Bags.
