Q1. Why did you choose design as a career ?
I have always believed in the importance of “Dressing up”. I am also a firm believer in the fact that our fashion reflects more about us than anything else. Also as said by Ralph Lauren himself – ” I don’t design clothes, I design dreams! ” I believe the fact that this is one of those few professions where we can cater for both what a client needs and wants. The happiness on the clients face after seeing their custom made ensemble, is priceless. That is something I look forward to do everyday for the rest of my life!
Q2. Where do you visualise yourself five years from now?
I will be graduating next year from NIFT, Bhubaneswar. I would look forward to getting placed at Campus placements, hopefully for a design house. I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. After gaining some hands on experience from many people and industries, I will be establishing my own Label within these 5years. Most likely to be wished to be a part of FORBES 30/30, by the time I’m 30.
Q3. Whom do you consider your mentor/Guru and why
Few years ago, I would have named a few. Over the years I’ve come to realize, each and everyone who cross our paths, whoever gives me knowledge. I consider them my guru. They can be a Master pattern maker, a weaver, anyone who imparts knowledge, I consider them my guru and thank them for life. Also, my inspiration to step up to this industry has always been Manish Malhotra.
Q4. What is the basic theme of your designing and why?
I want to cater to the NEED of the society in fashion through my Design solutions. “Nothing brings out the sense of belonging in us within a civilized society like dressing up does. No matter what! “A year ago, I made a capsule collection for People with disabilities. That is when I accepted Fashion is more than just a LBD (little black dress) for a Cocktail party. I always believe we wish for a lot of things, want a lot more things but our basic needs are Food, Water, Air and Shelter. What about those who have problems and dis – comfort with their clothes. If not us Designer’s then who cares for them. My design Philosophy has always been Needs of the market or Loop holes. Their comfort in their second skin that is their clothes is my motto. Also Sustainable and Responsible fashion. We should know our carbon footprint. I have always believed in reuse and recycling. Shortly I will be coming up with a collection of Recycled materials.
Q5. Write your autobiography ?
“So since autobiography is referred to as a personal written account by me, I believe that the initial questions pretty much cover up everything that I have to fill in here. And i personally believe that I would let my works speak for me.”
