Q1. Why did you choose design as a career ?
When I was a kid, I used to wear a neatly ironed uniform. I always liked to be very presentable. Growing up, I was captivated by seeing people who dressed well. I saw my mother and my grandmother, how they carried themselves with elegance. It then occurred to me that I was more inclined towards the creative industry. So soon after that, I realised that I needed to water these seeds every day and get formal training in fashion design.
Q2. Where do you visualise yourself five years from now?
I was always fascinated by high-end fashion brands. I hope to get an opportunity in one of the top fashion brands and wish to work closely with designers so that I can gain more knowledge from them. I want to be one of the reputed designers of a high-end brand and wish to represent India globally.

Q3. Whom do you consider your mentor/Guru and why?
I believe whatever I am today is because of my mother and my grandmother. They both are my gurus. They both stood like pillars when I felt that life was falling apart.
In my design career, I will always give credits to the faculties at NIFT as they guided me during my undergrads. And last but not least, my supervisor at NTU because of whom my master’s project was a success. It is because of them that I feel strong and confident in whatever I do. I shall never forget their contribution and time.
Q4. What is the basic theme of your designing and why?
I always try to find a balance between aesthetics and functionality. I feel satisfied when both aspects are aligned. My designs pivot around the idea of design longevity and sustainability. I think these themes always challenge me in a way to innovate. And I think being aware of the environment is essential too in the current times.
Q5. Write your autobiography ?
Myself Sagarika Chavare, I am from Mumbai, India.
I am a Knitwear designer, a fashion enthusiast, and an art lover. I love to illustrate and knit. I am eager and passionate to take on new skills inclined towards designing. I graduated from the National Institute of Fashion Technology in 2019. I worked as a design intern in esteemed organisations like Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd., Octave Apparels. I completed my MA in Knitwear Design from Nottingham Trent University this year.
